40th Birthday
Historical Village & Museum
The 40th Birthday of the Historical Village & Museum was a major event in 2014 with Keith Pitt (Federal MP) and Ted Sorrensen (State MP) attending.
Two new displays were opened, The Haddows 1920 Shop and the Minerals & Models display. The 1920’s shop has a treasure trove of items from yesteryear. The Minerals & Models display (opened by Ted Sorrenson) has a scale model of Main Street as it was in the early years and an extensive collection of rocks and minerals including Uranganite. This mineral is only found in Hervey Bay and the main deposits are located under the current airstrip at Urangan. . In 2015 we were awarded the Australia Day Community Event Award for this event. The restored 1932 Dennis Fire engine was a highlight of the day. The Hervey Bay Fire Brigade brought in two of their modern machines to show visitors a comparison. The Dennis Fire Engine looked quite tiny compared with the current versions. Everything is fully operable including the extending ladder, the bell and the siren.
Jim Daniels and his Bush Band was the main entertainment from the Goodwood Station stage. The Hervey Bay Ukelele & Musical Pickers also played several songs. A unique item, a piece of the original Krait timber was also presented to the Museum.
