Rear Buildings & Displays

Information on the buildings & displays in the rear of the museum.

Beach Change Shed

Unique to Hervey Bay, privately owned change sheds for ladies going for a swim.
Hundreds dotted the foreshore from Pt Vernon to Urangan.
It is estimated that there were at least 60 between Pt. Vernon and Urangan.

Railway Display

Contains Flat top rail cart, 2-person rail trolley, points.

Vis Hislop Shark Display

Boat 2 sharks in water. Take a photo in the boat

Cane Wagon, Farm Equipment

Cane Wagon, 4.5 ton owned by Newburn family of Walligan
Used up to c 1925 when trucks were used. Tree puller, ploughs

Tractor Shed

Tractors and motors, old tools and motors.

Billy Tea & Damper Area

Old pan Toilet. Damper cooking Fire Pit.
Specially constructed Gate by Harold Collins (Blacksmith). Count the number of different spanners used to make it.

Fire Station

Dennis Fire Engine 1932, Fully restored. Old Maryborough Telescope extension Ladder
Hats and equipment and photos of fires.

Fishing Museum

Original fishing boat shed from Gatakers Bay with variety of displays. The centrepiece is an original Hervey Bay made flat bottomed wooden dinghy which is listed on the Australian Register of Historic Vessels.
Old outboard motors. Whale skull, blow hole from beached whale on Western side of K’Gari (Fraser Island).

Harpoon

Originally from Urangan Boat harbour.

Haddow's Shop

Replica of a typical 1930’s Shop with products of the era, weighing scales and cash register from 1924, plus hundreds of items of the era. Look for brand names that are still in use today…. (Kellogg’s, Rinso etc).

Barber Shop

Old barbers chair, Cut throat razors,clippers and magazines.

Village Cobblers

Look at all the handmade shoes, boots, saddle making tools.

The Minerals & Models Room

Rare display of minerals, nice specimens of Uranganite, shells
A 1/15th scale model of Main St, Pialba 1925 plus smaller models of a variety of interesting subjects including Urangan Pier.

Fraser Island Logging

houses the Cat 35 etc. Chainsaw Display Logging, Fraser Island (K’Gari)

Bush Garden

Area with rare local trees, (Queensland kauri pines, bunya pines, Coffee trees and Brown Pines), hidden animals.
Also used for weddings

Maritime Display

Two 12ft Racing Dinghies, Models of two local fishing boats. Model of the “Krait”, Japanese fishing boat used by Allied commandos in WW2 to sink enemy shipping in Singapore Harbour
