Being a history buff and having been to a few museums, I think I would find it hard to find one better. Soooo deceiving when you first look at the front of the building. Let me tell you, there is so much to see. I was so blown away by the information held in this museum. The volunteers and all who work at making the museum the success that it is should be so proud. I think councils and governments should be helping more to enable places like these to keep our history safe.

We visited the Hervey Bay Historical Village & Museum for the first Time last Sunday the 11th of February 2018 for the first Time and we were absolutely impressed from the first step into the Village, how we were greeted by the Door, to the last step inside the Village! On the Day we spend 4.5 hours there and every minute was filled with Information, Historical and modern ones, we met wonderful People which see the place in shining Light because it has so much to offer, every Volunteer we have met on the Day has a wealth of Knowledge and brings that knowledge across with enthusiasm so that one can feel the Time and what the People experienced before us! Thank you very much for giving us a great opportunity to learn more about the Past of the Fraser Coast! A special Thank You to Mr. Leishman for his display and Love for the Past! We will be back, Laura & Jorg from Bauple!

Hervey Bay Museum is a wonderful collection of buildings and other exhibits that tell the story of the first settlers in the area, and how they lived. I needed every minute of the 3.5 hours I spent there to explore it. It has a great crew of volunteers that are happy to help and guide you around the lovely grounds. I loved the old shops, the old railway station and Dundrowan School. It has a lovely little church that is still used for services, weddings, etc. You should try to visit on a Sunday when the volunteers use machines over 100 years old to make ropes, shell corn and do wood turning. There is also a blacksmith!
“Bigger than expected & well worth the visit”

We stayed at Hervey Bay over Christmas and on our last day, decided to take a tour of the local Museum. It was very deceiving from the outside as it was much bigger than expected. On entering the main building, we were greeted by 2 female volunteers who were very helpful with local knowledge. Following the map we were given, we made our way around the various buildings and took a step back in time in history. Some buildings had radio recordings and tv videos. We took just over 2 hours to have a look through and would recommend it to anyone visiting the Hervey Bay Region.

I was seriously amazed at the amount we learnt within a couple of hours. The 1890’s house was my favourite. The old school was a lot of fun for our 6 year old.

Fun afternoon out reminiscing of the olden days in grandad’s house with a country town’s charm. Educational for adults and kids alike and the animal hunt kept kids going for ages. This attraction is bigger than expected with around 8000 exhibits so it is hard on the legs especially with older legs in the hot summer. Opening hours could be less restricted too.

My husband and I really enjoyed our visit to the museum. It looked small from the front but we where pleasantly surprised. It has many different buildings showing many different facets of history. The staff are very friendly and are happy to answer any questions. The whole experience was enjoyable. Many thanks Pete and Chris Robson

The volunteers that run the museum are extremely friendly, informative and love to have you there. Genuinely happy to be there and to show you around. The museum has some fantastic pieces, photos and displays on the history of Hervey Bay. We were absolutely surprised by the size of the place. Very impressive and would recommend to all ages, especially families with children. Lots to do and see.

I visited this Museum with a group of Senior Citizens, and there was a group of school children there at the same time. The volunteers were fantastic, they coped with two such diverse groups well, and we did not feel that they could have done anything else to make our visit more enjoyable. They were very considerate with our older ladies, with those with walkers and with those with hearing problems. I personally found it very interesting looking at all the displays – and I had many trips down memory street especially in the Ladies Craft building. I learnt a lot – I didn’t know corn could be used for so many things. Pioneers sure were inventive in ways to use every available part of a plant. Thank you again to all those who were there to make our day more enjoyable. Unfortunately, our slow progress because of age disabilities meant that most of us did not see everything on show, but I for one intend to return when I can.

Passionate, kind staff are pleased to show you the wide range timeless pieces and illustrate a vivid image of all the areas Australia’s intricate history. Hands on demonstrations blended with the staffs lively sense of humour will leave you wandering about the simplicity of early settlement life, and laughing out loud. One of the best museum experiences I’ve ever had. Looking forward to revisiting soon and would strongly suggest to anyone visiting the area.

We visited the historical village and museum on a relative’s recommendation and we were not disappointed. The only issue was that we ran out of time to see everything. The place itself is fascinating. We learned so much. We had children in our group and they enjoyed the visit too as there were lots of interactive displays. The staff welcomed the children and got them involved. Highly recommended stop when you are in Hervey Bay.
